A very warm welcome to our website. We include information that we hope you will find useful and if you are going to be a visitor to the area that you will feel that you would like to come to one of our services.

We like to think we are a friendly church. Services are never dull and include down to earth prayers and sermons.

Church members are often involved in services through Bible readings, taking prayers and sometimes leading worship. Music is an important part of any service and we have just created our own Praise Book with our favourite hymns and songs.

We also like to think we are a children friendly church. We have a Sunday School, although small, has an enthusiastic bunch of kids and adult leaders. A creche is available, in the vestry, where wee ones can disappear to during the quiet bits- adults too, if they want!

Within the church we have a loo and kitchen area. After each Sunday Service we have tea and coffee where people can share news and get to know new people in the Hall of Fellowship. Although this is now proving so popular that there is an overspill (if that's the word) back in to the church.

If you are visiting our church please make yourself known to the welcoming team at the door and please meet with us afterwards. Occasionally the unplanned happens! Forgive us in advance if something doesn't quite turn out right - our aim is to challenge.

Within the website please visit the different areas and we hope you get a feel that we are lively forward-looking church. Times of services do vary a little - please check under services.

THE CHURCH

Dunscore Parish Church is situated in the village of Dunscore in South-West Scotland.

The Parish Church was built in 1823-24 by James Thomson.

The exterior remains largely unchanged but in the early 1990's the central pews were removed within the church to make a more 'usable' space to accommodate small meetings and more intimate church services. The pews on either side of the aisles remain, as do several box pews.

The village of Dunscore although small serves a large area and the current church roll is around 250.

In the 1980's the Parish of Dunscore was joined with the parishes of Glencairn &Moniaive. Moniaive is situated approx. 8 miles north-west of Dunscore. The Church in Moniaive is St.Ninian's. Between Dunscore and Moniaive there is a Church which serves the parish of Glencairn.

Regular services are shared with our sister congregation.

Our current minister the Rev.Christine Sime has been with us since August 1994.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

What we believe…..

What we believe is summarised in the first vow of membership of the Church of Scotland:

We believe in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit and in Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord.

This is our Christian belief and we try to express it in our lives and worship We are challenged to explain to people outside the church what we mean by this vow and what God means to us in our daily living.

We believe that God is the creator of all that is. Jesus is the Son of God, totally human and totally divine. God sent Jesus to give us a living example of his love and to teach us more about his love. He died for us and then rose from the dead on Easter morning, giving us the essential proof of the truth that He has victory even over death.

We believe that we walk this way only once, but we believe in life after death.

The Church of Scotland is our national church which serves the whole of Scotland. Through its national network of parishes it serves members and non-members alike. It provides regular opportunities for worship and provides support and care for people in every community. The church community reaches out in love, as Jesus taught, and strives to show his mercy and grace wherever it can.

Dunscore Church is here to serve the people of its parish in Christ’s name.

Our mission is to "Convince people of God’s love for them"
